DILG to ease business permit requirements
July 31, 2010, 3:33pm
Local government units would be ordered to issue business permits while an applicant is still complying with the requirements so as not to delay the establishment of entrepreneurial activities and the flow of business in the countryside.
This was announced by Interior and Local Governments secretary Jesse Robredo at the 18th Metro Manila Business Conference held Friday in Manila Hotel.
In a talk with reporters later, Robredo explained that compliance to the requirements for mayor’s permit such as the certification from the Pag-Ibig and Social Security System can wait but businesses still have to comply by February 20, which is a month’s extension from January 20 deadline for businesses to comply, otherwise their permits would no longer be renewed or revoked.
Robredo expects to come up with a Memorandum Circular in a week’s time.
The business permit is good for one year so businesses are given ample time to comply with the requirements, he said.
“You should be able to get a mayor’s permit in a day, but getting some clearances take 15 to 20 days. In our case in Naga, you can get a mayor’s permit in three days,” said Robredo.
Robredo made this possible in Naga where he served as mayor for 19 years by allowing businesses to make an undertaking that the required other documents are still under process and their submission would just follow.
In Naga, the city has also adopted two tracks for those compliant and non-complaint.
